Our story

Serving The Needy, Integrity, Teamwork Excellence, Accountability

Every movement begins with a story.

HolyStreet Outreach International was founded in 2007 in the heart of Kawempe, one of Uganda’s largest and most underserved slum communities. What began as one man’s journey of transformation has grown into a movement that is restoring hope and changing lives.

Our Founder, Kennedy Bwambale, moved from Kasese to Kampala in search of a better future. Having overcome a past marked by drug addiction, he was determined to use his experiences to create opportunities for children and young people facing the same challenges he had once endured.

More about our founder

As a graffiti artist, beatboxer, and rapper, Kennedy naturally connected with children and youth in the slums. Through these relationships, he discovered that many were trapped in poverty, substance abuse, and hopelessness. Instead of turning away, he chose to mentor them, using hip-hop culture to inspire positive choices, build confidence, and encourage them to believe in a better future. This gave birth to HolyStreet MCs, a youth movement that reached children through rap, beatboxing, graffiti, and mentorship.

At the same time, Kennedy carried a lifelong passion for basketball. Having walked long distances simply to learn the game because there were no opportunities in his community, he envisioned creating a different future for children growing up in the slums. Basketball soon became a powerful platform for mentorship, leadership development, education, life skills, and personal growth, leading to the establishment of HolyStreet Basketball Academy.

More about our founder

As the impact continued to grow, what began as a small outreach to a few children evolved into HolyStreet Outreach International nonprofit organization committed to restoring hope, transforming lives, and developing the potential of vulnerable children and young people through sports, education, leadership development, and community outreach.

The name HolyStreet reflects our belief that no one should be defined by their past or by the streets they come from. We believe every child and young person deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, pursue their dreams, and become a positive influence in their community and beyond.
